THCA smalls are the same lab-tested flower as our full-size strains — smaller buds, or the loose material that breaks off during handling, priced lower per gram because of size and format, not because of lower testing standards. Every batch on this page carries the same third-party Certificate of Analysis (COA) as everything else in our Flower category. If you care more about value than bud size, this is the page for you.
What are THCA smalls, and are they the same as popcorn buds?
THCA smalls — also called popcorn buds — are fully mature, fully cured cannabis flower buds that grow smaller than the main colas, typically lower on the plant. They are whole buds, not trim or leftover scraps: the difference from full-size flower is size alone. The batch on this page, Popcorn Jack Herer OG, is lab-tested at 23% THC and carries the same batch-specific COA as our full-size strains. If you are comparing small buds to full-size flower for the first time, the COA linked on the product listing is the fastest way to confirm there is no difference in what was tested — only in size.
Are small buds and shake the same quality as full-size flower?
Yes — same plant, same harvest, same testing. The potency panel, pesticide screen, and every other check we run on full-size flower runs on smalls and shake too, batch by batch. Potency varies naturally from batch to batch, the same way it does across any THCA flower strain. That is exactly what the COA on each listing is for: it tells you the real numbers for the batch currently shipping, rather than asking you to take a general claim on faith.
What is the difference between THCA shake and THCA small buds?
Small buds (or popcorn buds) are whole, fully-formed flower — just smaller than the primary colas. Shake is different: it is the loose, broken-down material that separates from full buds during handling and trimming, not whole buds at all. Both come from the same lab-tested harvests as our full-size flower and carry the same COA standard. The difference is format, not quality: small buds are compact whole nugs you would grind like any other flower, while shake is already broken down and ready to pack straight into a bowl or a pre-roll.
Why is THCA shake and small buds cheaper than full-size flower?
Cultivation and lab testing cost the same regardless of bud size, so the lower price here comes entirely from format and size, not a lower testing standard. Smaller buds and shake are simply priced for what they are: less bud mass per unit, not less scrutiny. If budget matters more than bud size, this is the most direct way to get the same lab-verified quality at a lower price per gram.

We currently list these two products in this category, both in standard retail sizes. We do not yet offer bulk or by-the-pound pricing on shake or smalls — if that is what you are after, contact us and we can tell you honestly whether that is something we can do, rather than advertise a bulk option that is not live on the site yet.
What can you actually do with THCA shake?
Shake works the same way ground flower does: pack it into a bowl, roll it into a pre-roll, or use it anywhere you would use ground bud. Because the pieces are already broken down, it saves the grinding step. Because potency varies batch to batch — as it does with any THCA flower — check the COA linked on the listing for the exact numbers on the batch currently shipping before you decide how much to use.
Is THCA legal, and does that apply to smalls and shake too?
Legal status for hemp-derived THCA products depends on staying under 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight under the 2018 Farm Bill, and that threshold applies the same way to shake and small buds as it does to full-size flower — there is no separate rule for format or bud size. State law varies and can change, so always confirm current rules where you live before ordering. For the full picture, see our Education page and Lab Results for how we verify every batch.
